Supporting Acceleration of Transition At-Scale: Exploring Climate Action Teams (CAT) and Other Jurisdictional Mechanisms to Accelerate Decarbonization

COP27 Event, December 2022

On November 12, 2022, Suzi Kerr, Chief Economist and Mandy Rambharos, Vice President of Global Climate Cooperation at the Environmental Defense Fund, participated in an IETA BusinessHUB Pavilion event at #COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, exploring new models for international climate collaboration to accelerate decarbonization including #ClimateActionTeams and the South Africa Just Energy Transition Investment Plan. This event explored how different models of large-scale crediting mechanisms can support economy-wide transformation and decarbonization, support greater climate ambition beyond countries’ nationally determined contributions (NDC), and offer co-benefits for communities and ecosystems. Featuring remarks from experts working on a range of transformational-scale models, this event examined the LEAF project; jurisdictional approaches to electricity system transformation, as exemplified by South Africa; and the Climate Action Team (CAT) model.
