Suzi Kerr, chief economist at Environmental Defense Fund, presented at the David Bradford Energy and Environmental Policy Seminar Series organized by the Center for Policy Research on Energy and the Environment (C-PREE) in the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs, in September 2020.
Kerr argued that bringing carbon emissions to net-zero as quickly as possible requires building agreements that support and develop trust and sustained relationships, rather than mimicking commodity trading systems or linking carbon markets. The ‘climate teams’ mechanism is designed to benefit from and strengthen existing relationships to build a network of small groups of closely collaborating countries that can accelerate the global low-emissions transformation.
